Yfz Carb, Idles Really High

Ok i have just put on my yfz carb and now the bike idles really high when i start it, i cant seem to get the idling to go down, the idle adjustment is turned clockwise all the way and the cable isnt pinched anywhere, i even took it loose from the throttle housing and it still runs way high.
The needle is in the 4th clip and 170 main, with a 45 pilot. what should i do to get the idling down, it seems to sound like its at least half throttle. Please help

Check for vacuum leaks. Make sure your carb boots are on all the way and not tweeked one way or the other and check the throttle cable again for any binding.

sorry it was turned counter clockwise all the way down, the bike will idle fast, but i can bump the throttle and it will come down sometimes but then die. I checked for any loose boot fittings but everything is tight, is there anything meaning hoses on the carb that i need to block off? I greatly appreciate the help guys

Yeah the throttle cable has plenty of slack, and i can pull out the choke and the idle comes down, it idles a little rough but the rpms come way down, could it been running lean causing it to idle fast???? Hell if i know, come on guys help me out with your opinions. Thanks

you are just flooding it out by pulling the choke out.

the pilot should be good enough for testing... really need a 48 though... but 45 will work fine for this.

are you sure the idle is turned out all the way and the throttle cable has slack?????

Does the cable have a pinch somewhere?

Does it have enough spring tension to bring the slide back down?

yes idle is turn counter clockwise all the way down as far as it will go, and the throttle cable has got plenty of slack, thats why i'm am puzzled on what the problem is. It will idle high then i can bump the throttle alittle and sometimes is will come down (rpms) and sometimes it doesnt

I do believe something is not letting the slide go all the way down, how can i adjust the tension of the spring or can i, when i first push on the throttle its real easy then it gets alittle stiffer like the yfz should be, and i am running the complete yfz set up like yours clone.

First thing I did when I got my carb was clean, inspect, and lube everything up. That way I know what I got. Pull the carb off, take off the top cover and fuel bowl, and use carb or brake cleaner to clean it out really good, look things over then use a light amount of good grease(I always use white lithium) to lube the slide rollers. This prevents me from running into what you have..... which is, not knowing what is going on inside the carb.

when i first got it i checked the jets (170 main and 45 pilot) and then changed the needle to the 4th clip with 3 turns out on mixture screw. I did notice that when i pulled off the top cover on the carb to check the needle, that the screw that holds the slide rollers was boogered a little, wonder what happened there? I bought the carb off ebay from hellbound racing, it was said to have come of a racing yfz450.
But i will go back and clean everything and lube it all up good, i will relpy back in a few hours and let you know what happens. Thanks again clone

ok, i have taken the carb apart and cleaned everything, and greased the rollers, and still very fast idle. The idle will come down but then die when i bump the throttle with lots of slack in the cable, but when i adjust the cable where it should be the idle stays high when i bump the throttle. Do you think it could be the cable instead of the carb? My buddies yfz450 is here at my garage so tomorrow i may try using his throttle cable to see if thats the problem.

also, by the inspect in the one quote, part of inspecting is seeing that the slide/cable operation is good. On the yfz carb, the cable stays on the carb so when it was off, you should've been checking the operation of the slide by pulling on the cable and see that it doesn't stick. And when you find the sticking problem, it is easy to isolate it when it is off the bike. That was part of the inspect

I'd be willing to bet its your cable...same thing has happened to me. Either the cable is catching inside the housing somewhere, or is catching somewhere inside the carb where the cable connects.

I took my throttle off..worked the cable really well inside the housing, reconnected it to the carb, and everything was back to normal...

ok, first thing in the morning im gonna take it back off and inspect the cable and while its off i will take my buddies cable off and put it on mine to see if thats the problem. If so i guess i will use my stock thumber with the motion pro cable that i got ordered to fit the yfz to stock z thumber, and/or buy a new yfz cable, because i like to have extra parts laying around for those bad luck days.

kinda like today. Oh well i will let you guys know how it goes and thanks again for the coachings.

ok i tried my buddies throttle cable and compared the slides and still no fix, still wants to idle high, could it be something inside the carb where the cable goes, what is that small black piece with the blue spring on the backside? Could that have anything to do with it. I'm starting to really stress out!!!

Ok i have noticed that inside the throttle housing on the carb that where the cable hooks to (that operates the slide) does have play in it. Meaning i can move it back and forth a little (left to right if you are sitting on the bike) should it have play in it? I started it up with the housing cover off and when its idling high i can touch it and the idling goes down till the bike dies. Now any suggestions.

Did you check to see if the cable is snapping back to the same position each time the throttle is touched?? The problem is definitely with the cable or some kind of connection, I would thoroughly make sure everything is consistent everytime the throttle is pushed.
